      WHEN A DREAM BECOMES

             A REALITY. TO WIN

            THE BEST OF BREED

                 at C R U F T S .

We warmly celebrated SAMANTHA's victory on our return to Brullemail, in a way so as to remember forever this extaordinary and unforgettable day. Christopher made his special spicey black pudding & pear pie , forming the famous letters on the crust and put together a little arrangement to celebrate the great spring day.

In the life of many breeders or owners of pedigree dogs, there is one dream that seems to be impossible, especially if the breeder-owner isn't British and even more so if he dares to breed or show one of the great British Breeds. That is, to have a dog win the Best Of Breed at CRUFTS !

As you all know, CRUFTS is not only considered as the biggest dog show in the world (with more than 22 000 dogs) but also as"the Mecca" for show dogs.

With VENUS BEAUTE BR.(left: handler: Jim Deppen)
Since our first crossing of the channel with our dogs back in 2002, BRULLEMAIL MASTIFFS has come back to Crufts every year since.

We must admit that apart from taking part in what is the most fabulous dog show on earth, the excellent results of our Mastiffs were always very encouraging to make us want to come back and try again..
Take PERCY, alias Multi Ch HUGEDOGGE BARBIROLLI SIR PURCEL who was classed Reserve in the Open class in 2002 then 3rd in the Open class in 2003.
In 2004 Brullemail came to Crufts in strength, as we had 4 Mastiffs, thanks to the complicity of Willy Graf (SANDROSE , TINKABELL, TUSCANY SUPERB & SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL) and as luck would have it all four were classed....with the special congratulations from the now Chairman of Crufts, Mr Terry Thorn and from our french Club president Anne Marie Class.
Multi-W Ch SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL even won the Limit class.
First victory for a french Mastiff at Crufts !
In 2005, SAGAMORE was 2nd in the Open class and in 2006 Multi Ch SANDROSE BRULLEMAIL was classed 3rd in the Open class.

2007, is the apotheosis with the victory in the Open class of SAMANTHA, alias Fr-Int MESSIAH'S OLV TRUE LOVE.
This was already more than enough as a fabulous win alone.
But the adventure didn't stop there as SAMANTHA went on to win the Bitch CC and the supreme consecration of all ... the BEST OF BREED !
THE UNHOPED-FOR DREAM !

Twice before, the famous breeder and judge Richard Thomas has won the BOB with imported dogs , but to give the BOB to a "foreign" dog, presented by a "foreign" handler/owner, has never been seen before in the Mastiff ring at Crufts.
Bravo and thank you to Mrs Pamela Chidwick to have dared to make this honest and brave gesture.

It's around these great occasions that we can thank so many people , if not we never have the chance to do so.
I would like to thank all of those who have helped and supported me throughout the last 20 years by helping me to know , understand and to choose my Mastiffs.
I must of course begin by thanking Karin Leahy (MESSIAH Mastiffs), the breeder of SAMANTHA to have trusted us and by sending to France one of her most excellent puppies from her home. We had quite a few problems with other breeders before when we tried to find a quality pup in the States.
Without flattery, we would also like to take the opportunity, due to this exceptional event, to thank the judges, who right at the start could see the outstanding qualities of SAMANTHA .
The 20 judges from 7 nationalities and who in 5 countries gave SAMANTHA a CACIB and/or a BOB over these last 2 years from 2005-2006, results that enabled her to be classed as the Best Mastiff in France for 2 years in a row and thanks to whom she became French and International Champion, as well as the vice World Champion.
Obviously I cannot name them all but they know who are they are.
I wish to espeicially thank Mr René Pras who dared to give a Group victory to SAMANTHA at the Nantes show in 2005.
It is very rare in Europe to see a Mastiff on the podium of a Group.
I would also like to thank Mr Bas Bosch who has judged SAMANTHA 3 times and who gave her the CACS at the National Specialty in France, the CAC-CACIB at the Amsterdam Winner and the very symbolic act in the UK, her first Bitch CC at the MA Championship show in February 2007.
And finally, all of our gratitude goes to Mrs Pamela Chidwick of course, for this stunning victory ,the BOB at Crufts.

Sincere thanks to all the French who showed up around the ring to cheer Sammy on and to congratulate us. Our club President , Anne Marie Class, present every year to support her members and this year Nadine & Bernard Nahmias (with their lovely dog TOONS ) and Fabrice Bellotto and his father in law, who we heartily congratulate for the other big french win with Valseco in the Open Class (Res. CC) . Thanks for their support during this intense moment.
Thanks to the famous professional breeder of Labradors , Anne Charlotte Dreyfus and her friends who came just at the right moment to take part in the celebrations. The group of Russian friends who were also at the show.
It was so satisfying to note the extreme fair play and to receive encouragement from so many english who came to congratulate us like Elaine Knight and especially the judges Pamela Jean-Brown, Richard Thomas, Glynn Payne and Peter Sargeant.
And finally thanks for all of the really fantastic emails we recieved the next day after CRUFTS from around the world.
Good news travels fast.
Christopher and I lived a truly memorable day at CRUFTS this year.

FLASH BACK
The organisation at CRUFTS is really so perfect every year.
Over 22 000 dogs in 4 days and not even a bark (not cages but "benches" in wood , like stalls ), not a poo poo on the carpet in sight ... dogs and masters all perfectly well behaved !
Immense carpetted rings, surrounded by plenty of chairs to seat the many passionate spectators and owners from all over the world.
Secretaries and stewards of the highest standards and well disciplined exhibitors. Everything goes along nice and quickly.
Hundreds of stands, that it is well advised to assault on the thursday or friday, as they are invaded by over 1500 visitors more on the weekend.

And to top this.If only you can imagine the amount of attention that the organisors lavish upon the winners of the BOB !
A charming hostess comes to bring you a special pass so that you join the other BOB's at the end of the afternoon in a VIP lounge reserved for the handlers, owners and dogs. So that you can relax with a cup of tea , backstage, before going into the winners ring.
The main ring for the first time in CRUFTS history was held in the enormous hall used for rock concerts at the NEC in Birmingham, a kind of Zenith with 6000 places ... enough to scare anyones first time in the ring!
Half an hour before the judging of the Working group, a steward accompagnies you to a pre-ring where each handler had his own numbered chair.
Another steward comes to give you a plan of the arena and explains how the "ceremony" will pass and where you should stand.
At the exact hour planned, all of the dogs enter into the main ring with such a composed calm, to the shouting and clapping coming from the packed grandstands.
A real "show", retransmitted by the television on BBC2 for one hour every night on "prime time" from 8 to 9 o' clock !

A second moment of intense emotions where SAMANTHA (and me), nevertheless tired after all her runs around the ring had to give her best once again and show that a female Mastiff of 98 kg could still pull out the stops after a long and exciting day!
She did her breed proud, even if the judge, Mr S. Hall who is a specialist of the "Pastoral" group, prefered to keep the dogs with a more a swift movement for his shortlist, which is quite often the case.

The organisers of Crufts really know how to do things well, as they will send to every BOB, by post, an engraved trophy, an official portrait and a DVD of the judging of the Group shown on the TV !
The best dogs at Crufts are treated and looked upon as real stars.
But after all, they're the ones who make the show !

       SHOW.

  FIRST  CC IN THE  UK

          FOR  SAMMY

At the MASTIFF ASSOCIATION annual february Champinship Show, held to the north of Birmingham, not far from the NEC , the home of CRUFTS,Sammy came over to England to compete against some classy bitches and dogs in the land of her ancestors for the first time. The judge was Mr Bas Bosch, who had already seen her at the French National show and loved her back then.I stopped off at my parents on the way so she could get use to the British weather and food!

The commitee & members made us feel very welcome and it was nice to see a few friends like Richard & Peter from Bredwardine, Anne Griffin and Pamela Jeans Brown.

To my great joy Sammy won the Open Class and won Best Bitch up against some lovely English girls. Bredwardines, "Oliver" won the BOB leaving the BOS to Sammy.

Thanks to everyone for Sammy's 1st UK CC. 2 more to go to get the British Champion title.

            BACK IN THE USA

Sugar's baby boy Butler Brullemail finally made it to his new home back in the land of his father Jules,(Am Ch AUDLEY FARM FAMILY'S JULES) to the home of Nancy Schmid near Chicago.

After a long trip via Amsterdam, as the easiest and safest direct flight to Chicago was with KLM, we both made it and Butler was clean and happy to get out of his crate and discover for the first time the white snowy plains of the Northwest after the green pastures of Brullemail.

Nancy was overjoyed with her new boy who will be sharing her beautiful home with a Jack Russell called Pixel, a King Charles , Cleo and occasionally the Mastiff of her daughter called Harry. Everyone got along fine and I am sure that Butler will be very happy with Nancy, who intends to show him to the delight of Nancy Spiller the breeder & owner of his dad Jules.

I had a great stay in Chicago, my first time in this stunning metropolis, and thank Nancy for her hospitality. As I was in the states I headed on to New York to see the Christmas lights and do a spot of shopping before the holidays at Bergdoff's and catch a few Broadway shows !

                          Christopher.        Merry Christmas

THE POZNAN WORLD DOG SHOW

                           2006
Well. What a trip ! 2800km. I am exhausted but it was worth it.
To his great frustration Bernard had a very important Horse sale the same weekend. So he handed over the "leads ' to me !
The german autobahns are completely blocked with all the new traffic coming from the east. Sometimes stuck for up to 3 hours around the Rhineland cities.
Once you arrive in Poland you must follow a road for 120 km through a fairly bleak and sad region with the choice between "Knocking Shops " or road side sellers of garden gnomes. And thousands upon thousands of trucks!
The last 50 km is by a spanking new motorway which leads you into a more modern and fast develloping Poznan. Then try and find the hotel amongst a system of one way streets and Polish signposts!
At last on arriving at the Ibis Hotel I was happy to find the usual ambiance and excitement one finds in England before CRUFTS meeting all the exhibitors from all over Europe with their dogs.
D.DAY.
Getting to the show was easy and so was the parking. The exposition centre is like a village within the city of about 20 halls. You could park directly infront of the hall for your breed. Perfect. No queues and lots of place. In the hall N° 16 there were no cages but nice big rings , with lots of space for the dogs around the ring and not too hot or cold. What can I say . Everything looked really well organised for a great show. Over 5500 dogs expected that day only, with 86 Mastiffs. A huge number for our breed. 45 boys and 41girls.
I was there quite early with Sammy and Rosie and installed Rosie in her tent where she could hide and stay calm. Slowly I recognised some of the top Euprpean dogs arrive, along with French "team".
Nadine and Bernard Nahmias and Toons who came with there friend Hugo , who was a great help with my 2 while I was in the ring. Thanks to Hugo and the Toons. Then Fabrice and Sylvain arrived with Valesco and Aska. Everybody looked tired after the long drive but excited by the championship. Willy Graf from Germany was there with his hoard of Mastiffs. ( 4 all by himself) I helped him later by showing Tuscany in the open bitch class. Mme Tompousky arrived to watch her handler show Amric. And then Anne Marie Class, our ever faithfull Club President arrived to support her french members. There must have been 80% Russian /Polish entries and the Russian owners arrived headed by Svetlana Golnicova( looking gorgeous as ever) and her fellow club members and handlers.

Anne Marie Class & Svetlana Golnicova and friends.
To the surprise of everyone the Japanese judge Izumi Awashima(too many Japanese dogs to judge) had been replaced by Terry Thorn at the last minute which was great news to have this top all rounder and President of the Kennel Club judging our breed.
The judging kicked off in the order of the catalogue, puppy boys first and then the other males to be followed by the girls.
I tried to watch as much as possible but stayed as close to my 2 girls as some dogs had been stolen the previous day.
I found the dogs to be overall very good and above all extremely well handled. But there was no competition for the best dogs . The striking Carlo Magno won the intermediate class as he did at the French National show.Valesco easily won his Polish Championship title and the reserve CACIB behind Lion who was on great form, looking so much better after his stay in England with his new english handler Glynn Payne. Toons "Nahmias" was very happy with his "excellent" from this top judge.

                                                        LION
Then on came the girls. A much better looking group than the boys in general.I finally persuaded Rosie out of her tent and she was fairly well behaved in the ring. The 2 french young girls,Aska & Rosie both were awarded Excellent by Mr Thorn, hoping to have at least got a 3rd or 4th but no such luck. And to my great joy the young bitch Comtessa von der Villa Graf, bred by Willy out of our Tuscany and Hugedogge's Conrad, won the class.
The first 3 bitches winning the open class were of top quality especially the CAC winner Lady and might pose a problem for the Champions.
Until now Samantha had been lying down and having a sleep but when the other handlers saw her enter the ring for the Champion Class everyone was stunned by her beauty and presence. I was getting the thumbs up from many people around the ring, all telling me that it was a sure thing (which is never the case). The Eurpoean Champion Zanubia was not to be forgotten with her lovely movement and strong body. And in the end Terry Thorn gave her the CACIB and later on the BOB aginst the male Lion, as did his wife at the Eurpoean championships.

                                                    ZANUBIA

He brought Sammy back into the ring to decide the Reserve CACIB with Lady from the Open class and to my great satisfaction gave the ticket to Samantha.
I must thank everbody who afterwards gave Sammy so much praise and showed interest in her future and eventual breeding one day. Sorry to all of you who would like us to breed her to a giant dog ,full of wrinkles (to make a monster) but her first mate will be and always has been Percy, if we are lucky !

                                                     SAMANTHA
At the end of the show everyone was so famished and tired that we all ran of in different directions to find something to eat.Once again thanks to everyone and congratultions to all the breeders and owners and especially the French who came so far. I then went off to have a look at the stands (some quite surprising.....like the plastic surgeon clinic and the funny frilly dog basket stands) and the ambiance around the huge main ring packed with hundreds of spectators.
The World Show in Poznan was obviously a huge succes for the organisers and I hope that the show in Mexico next year can live up to its high standard and it will be great occasion for all of you US breeders and fanciers.
I think that maybe its a little bit too far for us........... but knowing Bernard anything is possible!

7 males and 5 females (7 brindles, 4 fawns and 1 apricot).
Parents have both excellent pedigrees :
Stud-dog is Multi-W Ch SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL (Multi Ch Hugedogge B. Sir Purcel x Bredwardine's Brullemail)
Dam is VICTORIA DE MOLOSSIE (Rubens de Molossie x Dandylion Darma of Molossie)
A cross of the 2 best Mastiff kennels lineages in France.
World-Multi Ch SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL alias SAGGY (Mastiff N°2 in France in 2003 behind his litter sister, World Junior Champion 2002 (Amsterdam), World Champion 2003 (Dortmund), Winner at Crufts (GB) in 2004 and 2d in 2005 (Limit class), Reserve CC at Bath championship show (GB), B.O.S at Belgium club show 2003, Best Of Breed at German Club show 2004, B.O.B at France Championship show 2005, many CACIB & B.O.B, Group placements & Reserve-B.I.S at Hessen Molosser Show (D) etc... HD =B/C (Cotation 3).
SAGGY was one of the best Mastiffs in Europe and one of the very rare from the continent to compete and to win in GB.
His first litter was born in USA in 2005.
SAGGY 's dam is the wellknown broodbitch "ELITE", BREDWARDINE'S BRULLEMAIL (Eng Ch Darkling Fin Mc Cumalh x Bredwardine Bwlchciliau) alias PRIMROSE, HD = C, DNA, PRA, PPM, imported from Walles.

                                                    SAGGY
VICTORIA DE MOLOSSIE was placed 4th Excellent Selectionned in Open class at the French National Specialty and winner of CACIB-BOB at Angers 2006. She has cotation 4.
This young bitch is a daughter of RUBENS DE MOLOSSIE (Cavel Hercule, imported from USA) Cotation 4, grand son of the famous Am Ch SEMPER FI GROPPETTI GARGOYLE, as the same than SAGGY's sire. RUBENS already produced excellent winners as TATOO IN DE MOLOSSIE (European Champion 2004) or VIZIR DE MOLOSSIE (CAC NS 2006).
- DANDYLION DARMA OF MOLOSSIE (Am Ch Groppetti Down Under x Am Ch Dandylion Maggy Magee), VICTORIA's dam, was imported from USA. She is from an excellent lineage too.
Her dam MAGGY won Open class at the National US 1996 and her grand dam Ch LIONSIRE ELLIE OF DEER RUN was a daughter of the exceptionnal stud dog Am Ch LIONSIRE GRIZZ.
ELLIE was "TOP producing Mastiff bitch 1996 in USA" and Hall of Fame.
We find 2 times ELLIE in VICTORIA's pedigree because this famous foundation bitch is twice her grand grand dam on her mother and father sides.
As you can see, the puppies of this litter have a very interesting pedigree and there are all 3 colours of the breed.
More news in a couple of weeks.

We are used to seeing at the French National Specialty a large number of excellent Mastiffs . This year was no exception.Several of these dogs have been seen often at the internatioanl shows over the past few years.
The french mastiff breeding situation still remains fairly small considering the number of litters but is nevertheless one of the best in Europe.
The breed really deserves to grow in our country as is the case in smaller countries in the North of Europe and in the USA.
Only 150 births of Mastiffs per year in France, is really small if you compare it to other breeds in the same group 2  like the New foundlands , St Bernards or Leonberg and Bouvier Bernois who have 10 to 20 times more. Quality rather than quantity?
Not to mention several new fast growing breeds in fashion like the smaller sized, Dogue Argentin or the Cane Corso.
Its up to us , breeders and owners of Mastiffs in charge of the selection of our dogs to show off our dogs and to valorise this wonderful breed who give us all so much pleasure everyday.
