WHEN A DREAM BECOMES
A REALITY. TO WIN
THE BEST OF BREED
at C R
U F T S .

We warmly celebrated SAMANTHA's victory on our return to Brullemail,
in a way so as to remember forever this extaordinary and unforgettable
day. Christopher made his special spicey black pudding &
pear pie , forming the famous letters on the crust and put
together a little arrangement to celebrate the great spring
day.
In the life of many breeders or owners of pedigree dogs, there
is one dream that seems to be impossible, especially if the
breeder-owner isn't British and even more so if he dares to
breed or show one of the great British Breeds. That is, to
have a dog win the Best Of Breed at CRUFTS !
As you all know, CRUFTS is not only considered as the biggest
dog show in the world (with more than 22 000 dogs) but also
as"the Mecca" for show dogs.

Since our first crossing of the channel with our dogs back
in 2002, BRULLEMAIL MASTIFFS has come back to Crufts every
year since.
We must admit that apart from taking part in what is the most
fabulous dog show on earth, the excellent results of our Mastiffs
were always very encouraging to make us want to come back
and try again..
Take PERCY, alias Multi Ch HUGEDOGGE BARBIROLLI SIR PURCEL
who was classed Reserve in the Open class in 2002 then 3rd
in the Open class in 2003.
In 2004 Brullemail came to Crufts in strength, as we had 4
Mastiffs, thanks to the complicity of Willy Graf (SANDROSE
, TINKABELL, TUSCANY SUPERB & SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL)
and as luck would have it all four were classed....with the
special congratulations from the now Chairman of Crufts, Mr
Terry Thorn and from our french Club president Anne Marie
Class.
Multi-W Ch SAGAMORE STABLEBOY BRULLEMAIL even won the Limit
class.
First victory for a french Mastiff at Crufts !
In 2005, SAGAMORE was 2nd in the Open class and in 2006 Multi
Ch SANDROSE BRULLEMAIL was classed 3rd in the Open class.
2007, is the apotheosis with the victory in the Open class
of SAMANTHA, alias Fr-Int MESSIAH'S OLV TRUE LOVE.
This was already more than enough as a fabulous win alone.
But the adventure didn't stop there as SAMANTHA went on to
win the Bitch CC and the supreme consecration of all ... the
BEST OF BREED !
THE UNHOPED-FOR DREAM !
Twice before, the famous breeder and judge Richard Thomas
has won the BOB with imported dogs , but to give the BOB to
a "foreign" dog, presented by a "foreign"
handler/owner, has never been seen before in the Mastiff ring
at Crufts.
Bravo and thank you to Mrs Pamela Chidwick to have dared to
make this honest and brave gesture.
It's around these great occasions that we can thank so many
people , if not we never have the chance to do so.
I would like to thank all of those who have helped and supported
me throughout the last 20 years by helping me to know , understand
and to choose my Mastiffs.
I must of course begin by thanking Karin Leahy (MESSIAH Mastiffs),
the breeder of SAMANTHA to have trusted us and by sending
to France one of her most excellent puppies from her home.
We had quite a few problems with other breeders before when
we tried to find a quality pup in the States.
Without flattery, we would also like to take the opportunity,
due to this exceptional event, to thank the judges, who right
at the start could see the outstanding qualities of SAMANTHA
.
The 20 judges from 7 nationalities and who in 5 countries
gave SAMANTHA a CACIB and/or a BOB over these last 2 years
from 2005-2006, results that enabled her to be classed as
the Best Mastiff in France for 2 years in a row and thanks
to whom she became French and International Champion, as well
as the vice World Champion.
Obviously I cannot name them all but they know who are they
are.
I wish to espeicially thank Mr René Pras who dared
to give a Group victory to SAMANTHA at the Nantes show in
2005.
It is very rare in Europe to see a Mastiff on the podium of
a Group.
I would also like to thank Mr Bas Bosch who has judged SAMANTHA
3 times and who gave her the CACS at the National Specialty
in France, the CAC-CACIB at the Amsterdam Winner and the very
symbolic act in the UK, her first Bitch CC at the MA Championship
show in February 2007.
And finally, all of our gratitude goes to Mrs Pamela Chidwick
of course, for this stunning victory ,the BOB at Crufts.
Sincere thanks to all the French who showed up around the
ring to cheer Sammy on and to congratulate us. Our club President
, Anne Marie Class, present every year to support her members
and this year Nadine & Bernard Nahmias (with their lovely
dog TOONS ) and Fabrice Bellotto and his father in law, who
we heartily congratulate for the other big french win with
Valseco in the Open Class (Res. CC) . Thanks for their support
during this intense moment.
Thanks to the famous professional breeder of Labradors , Anne
Charlotte Dreyfus and her friends who came just at the right
moment to take part in the celebrations. The group of Russian
friends who were also at the show.
It was so satisfying to note the extreme fair play and to
receive encouragement from so many english who came to congratulate
us like Elaine Knight and especially the judges Pamela Jean-Brown,
Richard Thomas, Glynn Payne and Peter Sargeant.
And finally thanks for all of the really fantastic emails
we recieved the next day after CRUFTS from around the world.
Good news travels fast.
Christopher and I lived a truly memorable day at CRUFTS this
year.
FLASH BACK
The organisation at CRUFTS is really so perfect every year.
Over 22 000 dogs in 4 days and not even a bark (not cages
but "benches" in wood , like stalls ), not a poo
poo on the carpet in sight ... dogs and masters all perfectly
well behaved !
Immense carpetted rings, surrounded by plenty of chairs to
seat the many passionate spectators and owners from all over
the world.
Secretaries and stewards of the highest standards and well
disciplined exhibitors. Everything goes along nice and quickly.
Hundreds of stands, that it is well advised to assault on
the thursday or friday, as they are invaded by over 1500 visitors
more on the weekend.
And to top this.If only you can imagine the amount of attention
that the organisors lavish upon the winners of the BOB !
A charming hostess comes to bring you a special pass so that
you join the other BOB's at the end of the afternoon in a
VIP lounge reserved for the handlers, owners and dogs. So
that you can relax with a cup of tea , backstage, before going
into the winners ring.
The main ring for the first time in CRUFTS history was held
in the enormous hall used for rock concerts at the NEC in
Birmingham, a kind of Zenith with 6000 places ... enough to
scare anyones first time in the ring!
Half an hour before the judging of the Working group, a steward
accompagnies you to a pre-ring where each handler had his
own numbered chair.
Another steward comes to give you a plan of the arena and
explains how the "ceremony" will pass and where
you should stand.
At the exact hour planned, all of the dogs enter into the
main ring with such a composed calm, to the shouting and clapping
coming from the packed grandstands.
A real "show", retransmitted by the television on
BBC2 for one hour every night on "prime time" from
8 to 9 o' clock !
A second moment of intense emotions where SAMANTHA (and me),
nevertheless tired after all her runs around the ring had
to give her best once again and show that a female Mastiff
of 98 kg could still pull out the stops after a long and exciting
day!
She did her breed proud, even if the judge, Mr S. Hall who
is a specialist of the "Pastoral" group, prefered
to keep the dogs with a more a swift movement for his shortlist,
which is quite often the case.

The organisers of Crufts really know how to do things well,
as they will send to every BOB, by post, an engraved trophy,
an official portrait and a DVD of the judging of the Group
shown on the TV !
The best dogs at Crufts are treated and looked upon as real
stars.
But after all, they're the ones who make the show !
